Kalon is an AI assistant that lives on your device and stays there. Models, memory, tools, voice, and documents all run locally. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose to connect a remote provider, and by default that switch is off.
What it does
- Chat with open models sized to your hardware. Kalon reads the memory your device actually has and sizes each model to fit it, so a phone and a desktop each run what they can comfortably hold.
- Read what you give it. Images, PDFs, and documents are understood on the device, including OCR for scans.
- Listen and speak. Dictation works offline. Text-to-speech runs locally. On the Mac, Kalon can clone an English voice from a recording of about fifteen seconds.
- Act. Kalon is agentic: it can read and edit files, run commands, use git, draft documents, and remember what matters, with tools you can inspect.
- Extend. Skills are plain Markdown. Plugins bundle tools together. Model Context Protocol servers connect over stdio or HTTP.
- Serve. Kalon can expose a local, OpenAI-compatible API, so tools you already use can talk to the model on your machine.
What it does not do
It does not phone home. It does not train on your conversations. It does not require an account. If you turn on Block all network access, it will not even download a model until you turn it off.
Two companions
Air Kalon sends files between devices using a screen and a camera, no network required. AirLink carries messages between nearby devices over Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or any local network, no data plan required. Both are becoming part of Kalon itself, Air Kalon first.
Get it
Kalon is available now for macOS on Apple silicon and for iPhone on iOS 17 and later. Windows and Android are in development. Download it here, and tell us what you build.
