Work on running intelligence where the data is: model efficiency on small devices, offline transport, and the systems around them. Everything here links to the artifact, the code, or both.

AirLink: sealed voice and text between nearby devices with no network

    Kalon Research

AirLink lets two people talk and message when there is no internet, no carrier, and no account, using only the radios their phones and laptops already have. We describe a small flooding mesh that runs over Bluetooth Low Energy and peer-to-peer Wi-Fi at the same time, a sealed-sender message format built on HPKE, a call path that sends Opus voice down two roads at once, and the number system that lets a stranger dial you from across a room. Everything below is drawn from the shipping code, its 199 automated tests, and one measured session on real devices.

Optical file transfer with fountain codes on consumer displays and cameras

    Kalon Research

We describe a one-way optical channel that moves files between commodity devices using only a display and a camera, with no radio, no pairing and no server. Because the camera cannot talk back, the sender streams RaptorQ encoding symbols in self-describing QR frames and the receiver rebuilds the file from any sufficient set, verifying a SHA-256 digest before it offers anything. On real devices the code completed at exactly the source symbol count in every recorded run. A MacBook Pro sending to an iPhone 12 Pro Max reached 30.5 KB/s at QR version 27, 90% of the ceiling for that code size and frame rate, with a median decoder pass of 23.8 ms. Across 64 runs on three device pairings, raising density to version 40 cost 1.59 to 1.67 times the decoder pass with no detectable loss in hit rate, and Low Power Mode, not thermal state, lengthened the pass on every pairing. Several of these effects were misread in single runs and corrected by repetition.
