Memory

What Kalon remembers, when it reads those notes, how to review and delete them, and when they may reach an online model.

Memory is a list of short notes stored on your device. Kalon saves one when you ask it to remember something, or when the agent decides a stable fact is worth keeping.

How notes are written and read

  • Writing. In agent mode, the model saves notes with the remember tool. On iPhone this needs Settings › Tools › Let Kalon use tools.
  • Reading at the start of a turn. The six most recent notes are added to the model's instructions. On the Mac this happens in agent mode, and each note is shortened to a single line of up to 200 characters and labelled as reference data, not as instructions.
  • Searching. The search_memory tool finds older notes by full-text search and returns the top eight. With semantic search turned on and the embedding model installed, results are ranked by meaning instead.

Notes are scoped. Each family profile has its own notes, and each Build session can hold project notes that other sessions do not see.

Reviewing and deleting

On the Mac

Settings › Memory shows What Kalon remembers with the number of notes stored on this Mac, and lists every note. Click the trash button on a note to delete it, or Delete all to remove everything after confirming.

On iPhone and iPad

Settings › Memory lists your notes. You can add a note yourself, and Forget everything deletes them all after confirming.

Memory and online models

Saved notes are not sent to online models by default.

  • On the Mac, the switch is Share memories with online models in Settings › Memory. Off keeps your notes on this Mac.
  • On iPhone, it is Let online models see your notes in Settings › Privacy.

This switch controls the notes Kalon adds to the instructions. If the agent calls search_memory during a turn on an online model, the results of that call go to the provider like any other tool result. The call is shown in the reply's trace.

With a local model, notes are always available.

Backups

Notes are included in encrypted backups.
